Well, Dunedin was lucky enough to see a Christmas star this year. It was the Sun which has been conspicuously absent so far this summer. We actually managed to have a traditional southern hemisphere barbecue on Christmas Day, and enjoyed some quite warm temperatures during the afternoon.
On Boxing Day we had a mixture of warm sun; and thunder, lightning, and heavy rain with hail. Last week in Queenstown there was snow down to a few hundred meters. New Zealand's weather is always unpredictable and changeable, but this is even more ridiculous than usual!
It doesn't really matter too much, compared with the problems caused by weather in parts of North America and Europe, we don't have much to complain about here. About the worst we ever get, even in mid winter, is the occasional road closed for a few hours by snow.
Anyway, we will just have to wait and see what the rest of the summer brings, although the weather forecasters assure us we will have some more of this unsettled stuff for a few more weeks yet.
