Lake Mavora

Entry 402, on 2006-09-29 at 22:15:46 (Rating 1, Travel)

Today is the second day of my short holiday in Te Anau. If you have never heard of it (if you're not from New Zealand you probably won't have) Te Anau is a small town on the edge of Fiordland National Park in Southland, New Zealand. It is most well known because it is the starting point of the road that leads to Milford Sound, and the lake is the starting point of the Milford Track.

Fiordland is infamous for its changeable weather, and it has the highest rainfall in the country, so we were happy to arrive here yesterday in brilliant sunshine. Today is cloudy and cool, but there is no rain so we decided to take a short drive to Lake Mavora, where we walked through some typical New Zealand rain forest. Depending on which blog you are viewing you might see a photo of us crossing a swing bridge included with this blog entry.

After doing a bit of exploring at Mavora we headed back to Te Anau as the sun set. If the weather is suitable we will visit some of the more well known Fiordland locations in the next few days.
