Museum of Lies

Entry 551, on 2007-06-11 at 17:02:02 (Rating 5, Religion)

OK, I've tried to avoid this subject, but I just can't ignore it any longer. The subject I'm talking about is the Creation Museum which has just opened in the US. Do I have a problem with it? Yes, I do, because most people assume that museums present facts and only present mythology in a historical and cultural context. If a myth was presented as a fact I think we would be quite right to be somewhat annoyed.

The Creation Museum clearly does this. It presents Christian mythology as if it was factual. Not only that but it also does the opposite by presenting facts as if they were untrue. For example, they say that creation and evolution can't co-exist, which is a fair comment in my opinion, because I'm sick of trying to make sense out of the hypothesis that both are true. The problem is that once they agree that both can't be true they then reject evolution based on false logic, incomplete quotes, cherry picking evidence, etc. In other words they use all the standard creationist tricks.

So let's have a look at some information about the "exhibits" from the web site...

Grand Canyon Wall. Gape at the towering face of Grand Canyon along the front wall, while bones of dreadful dinosaurs hint of catastrophe.

I guess this is general enough that it doesn't really mean anything. Maybe the catastrophe is the meteor collision which contributed to the extinction of dinosaurs at the KT boundary. But that can't be right, because the Earth is only 6000 years old according to the Museum of Lies, and the extinction happened 65 million years ago.

Stargazers' Room. Peer back into the deepest recesses of the heavens, and discover that the latest images of the stars confirm an all powerful Creator, not a random bang!

These images must be so new that no scientists even know they exist yet! But there must be something wrong here too, because the latest evidence of the origin of the Universe comes from objects billions of light years away, and we know the age of the Earth is only 6000 years according to the Museum of Lies.

SFX Theater. Hold onto your seat! Take a journey through time that you've never experienced before! Biblical history comes alive, as God's Word - beginning in Genesis - explains the universe we see today.

Sounds great. I wonder how they explain all the events that happened before this alleged Genesis event occurred, after all, the Earth is only 6000 years old according to the Museum of Lies.

Lobby. Imagine soaring cypress trees, the sounds of waterfalls and children playing with dinosaurs! What other surprises await?

I can't imagine - children playing with dinosaurs would be a big enough surprise for me. I'm surprised that dinosaurs, which died out 65 million years before creation was even supposed to have happened are shown happily co-existing with children at the Museum of Lies.

Them Dry Bones. One set of bones, two interpretations. How can two paleontologists, digging the same dinosaur fossil in the field, reach opposite conclusions? The answer: starting points. Fossils don't come with labels. We must begin with assumptions! But which is correct?

Well certainly not one which says the world is only 6000 years old, that's for sure. There will always be some controversy in the interpretation of scientific evidence, but applying logic and scientific methods always gets the best answer. And, guess what? It doesn't show the fossils are only 6000 years old like the Museum of Lies says.

Bible Authority Room. The Bible is true. No doubt about it! Paul explains God's authoritative Word, and everyone who rejects His history-including six-day creation and Noah's Flood-is "willfully" ignorant.

No doubt about it. Really? Well I'm afraid I'll have to continue to be willfully ignorant because only a complete idiot would even pretend the flood myth is true. And the six day creation is almost as silly. Of course we should all believe Paul according to the Museum of Lies. I mean he didn't have anything to gain by pretending this new religion was true, did he?

Creation. Explore the wonders of creation. The imprint of the Creator is all around us. And the Bible's clear - heaven and earth in six 24-hour days, earth before sun, birds before lizards.

Are these people trying to disprove their own theories? I'm sorry but there is just no doubt about it. The Sun formed first, and lizards are much older than birds. You would really have to be a moron to believe the opposite. The Earth formed before the Sun according to the Museum of Lies. What was it orbiting around then? And what about all the other solar systems we see out there where planets are forming from stars?

Just for Kids. Everywhere you turn, science confirms the biblical account! As you explore, children can scurry off into the section "just for kids," where they interact with displays of exotic living animals and learn more about the Master Designer.

Maybe this happens everywhere you turn at the Museum of Lies, but in the real world the opposite is true. And I really pity those poor kids who scurry off into the propaganda corners to absorb more worthless nonsense so that they can be captured and controlled by their disgusting churches.

So the Museum of Lies sounds like an interesting place. I mean really, how stupid would you have to be to believe this garbage? Young Earth creationism is one of the most idiotic ideas I have ever heard. Its easy to prove its wrong and all the creation museums and other sources of lies and propaganda in the world can't change the truth.

Nice critique of the museum. I agree with what you are saying, and I like the way you said it too!
