Purakaunui Falls

The Purakaunui Falls are a scenic stop on the coastal road between Dunedin and Invercargill. Surrounded by native New Zealand rain forest with beech forest and ferns, the cool water flows into the pool below. The falls are 15 meters high and have three tiers.

A longer exposure here blurs the water while leaving the rest of the scene sharp. This creates a feeling of movement at the same time as the water, especially as it hits the pool below, is softened. I used shutter priority program here, setting the time to about half a second and letting the camera set the aperture. It's a wide angle shot but keeping the camera still and checking depth of field are still important.
