I tasted the 1997 vintage of this wine on 02 Nov 1997 when it was 1 year old and gave it a rating of good.
The appearance showed clear bright watery green gold colours. The bouquet was very intense, with dry steely floral tropical gooseberry fruit. The taste was very dry with intense fruity flavours, and was clean and crisp. This wine had a great bouquet, and was intense, it probably needs some ageing.
I tasted the 2001 vintage of this wine on 10 Nov 2001 when it was 1 year old and gave it a rating of good.
The colour was very light bright pale green gold. There was a strong crisp clean gooseberry citrus fruit bouquet. the flavour was intense crisp gooseberry fruit, dry grassy mid and a clean finish. This wine showed intense varietal gooseberry fruit, it was a very clean crisp style. Classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc!
I tasted the 1998 vintage of this wine on 04 Mar 2000 when it was 2 years old and gave it a rating of good.
The colour was pale lemon gold, and it was clear and bright. The bouquet was intense tropical gooseberry lemon fruit, and was dry and clean. there was strong lemon gooseberry fruit, and a dry and stalky finish. This wine had crisp clean intense fruit, and was dry and fairly complex. Very impressive.

This wine had a great bouquet, was very intense, but probably needs some ageing - but not too much. This is a real New Zealand classic.
Note 1: I am not really a wine expert (just an enthusiastic amateur), so please don't take my recommendations as anything more than a rough guide to these wines. I can take no responsibility if you buy a lot of this particular wine, on my recommendation, and then regret it!
Note 2: You may not fully agree with my evaluation of these wines, as a lot of this is quite subjective. I tend to put a lot of emphasis on complexity and intense characteristic and varietal flavours and bouquet, so if you disagree you might just have different priorities.
