So What?

Entry 317, on 2006-05-02 at 21:32:51 (Rating 1, Computers)

Today I tested Windows running on some Intel Macs. I tested Apple's Boot Camp, and Parallels Workstation on a MacBook Pro and an Intel Mac Mini. Well Windows ran really well - or as well as well an inferior system can ever run - but I was sitting there thinking "so what?"

The problem was: what would I do next. I couldn't think of any Windows software I really wanted to run. Well, apart from games which don't have Mac equivalents, and I was more interested in "real software" at the time.

I know there are specialised programs which are only available for Windows, and using Windows compatibility software on a Mac is a great way to get those programs while still being able to use Mac OS X for the majority of your computing. But this showed me that the software available for the Mac is good, and there aren't any major gaps in the types of programs available.

Sometimes you have to get something before realising you don't really need it.

Owen, you didn't look very hard, did you? There is heaps of great Windows software I use. What about all the cool games that you can't get for your Mac?

I agree, but I specifically said I wasn't interested in games at the time (if you read my original post). Games are definitely one area I want to explore. I just have to find enough time to full justice to the games I want to try! So do any Windows users out there want to recommend some really good games?
