I just noticed that yesterday I created my 500th blog entry. My first blog entry was made on 4 April 2003 (about 4 years ago) and was a short comment on my the merits of a broadband connection I had just installed. Since then I have written over 150,000 words, or 330 pages of complete rubbish! Well not all of it was complete rubbish, of course.

There have been about 350,000 hits in my blog pages (that is my main blog at owen2.otago.ac.nz), although I would say half of those could be from automated web crawlers, etc. But I have had over 500 comments made - half of those were by me as answers to comments others were leaving.

I have covered a remarkable number of subjects in the process of writing this blog. Theology and politics have been popular and have generated the most comment. I've also made a number of entries about computers: especially negative comments about Microsoft, and positive ones about Apple. But here are a few of my stranger entries:

On 5 March 2007, the entry "Genuine Friendship" discussed how it was OK to make jokes about your friends.

On 5 February 2007, the entry "Completely Different" discussed a case where a Star Wars fan dressed as Chewbecca was arrested for head-butting a guide in Hollywood.

On 16 November 2006, in "Public Nuisance" I raved on about how much noise I was making with my new stereo system.

On 23 September 2006, in "Craft or Crap?" I questioned the quality of the items displayed at the average craft show.

On 5 July 2006, in "Remember Easter Island" I pointed out the parallels between the collapse of civilisation on Easter Island and similar environmental problems today.

On 28 July 2006, in "Coffee" I talked about the merits of coffee, and how hard it is to get a really good cup.

On 6 June 2006, I discussed the number 666 in an entry with that title. Its an interesting number, but so are all the other numbers if you look closely.

On 30 March 2006, in "Hubble" I talked about how amazing the work done by astronomer, Edwin Hubble, was.

One of my favourites was 18 March 2005, in "Vogon Poetry" where I recalled some of the classic humour of Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy.

See! There's something for everyone there! Not every blog entry is a rant against religion, or a tirade ridiculing Microsoft, or pointing out how great Apple is, or what a mess George Bush is making of things, etc. This blog is eclectic - one of my favourite words (OK, there's an idea for a future blog entry).
