Not Nice

Recently when debating some idiots on-line I was challenged to define what being "woke" really meant. I said that a formal definiton would require a lot more space and effort than would be common in a social media comment, but I could give a simple summary of many of wokeism's underlying ideology by saying that it emphasised emotion over logic, or that woke people liked to believe what is nice rather than what is true.

By "nice" here I am obviously being a bit facetious because many of what they think is nice is actually not nice at all, but it's a good shortcut for that more complex definition I mentioned above.

So at this point, as is my usual habit, I would like to provide a few examples where being (allegedly) nice is given priority over what is true.

First, a very current issue here in New Zealand: race relations. To be nice (or "kind" as was often the claim of the tyrant, our past PM, Jacinda Ardern) is to give a lot of extra privileges to a minority group, such as Maori here in New Zealand. These privileges include special priority given to their culture, membership of groups which have a degree of power in ways that others don't have access to, and simple handouts of extra money.

Well sure, the people receiving all of these benefits must be very happy about the situation and must see the whole process as being very "nice" or "kind". But there are negative consequences to others, such as having to pay (through taxes and rates) for these acts of "kindness" and having decisions made by unelected people which might negatively affect them.

So, on balance, is this really being nice? If we analysed these actions more rationally would we not see that the negatives outweigh the positives?

Here's another example. Many woke people are also very concerned about the environment, especially in relation to climate change. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, because we all should be aware of environmental and climate issues, but surely we should be rational about this and not emotional.

One of the biggest sources of environmental damage is energy production. We have coal and oil fired power stations, and a lot of vehicles which burn fossil fuels. But energy is important and it is the major factor which can drag a less developed country into a more modern and prosperous state. Shutting down energy production just isn't a realistic option, and many countries which have tried it (Germany for example) have later regretted it.

The obvious answer is nuclear, but the woke morons are scared of it. Why? Certainly not because it is dangerous, because it is exactly the opposite: nuclear power is the safest form of energy production. Yes, that's right, more people die as a result of renewable energy every year than from nuclear. There have only ever been three major nuclear accidents, and two of them (Fukishima and Three Mile Island) resulted in no deaths at all (except one suspected cancer case).

Were you aware of that, or is your opinion also based on emotion? I agree, Chernobyl did cause some deaths, but mainly because of the gross incompetence and corruption of the Soviet regime (you now, that same kind of extreme socialist government many woke people want!)

So if it's not facts driving their objections it is clearly emotion. Nuclear power would be the greatest thing for the environment (and society) ever, but because of their irrational beliefs, environmentalists refuse to acknowledge that.

A similar argument applies to genetic modification. Used appropriately, this could also make massive improvements to both human society and the environment. But to the woke idiots (and here is one of my favourite catchphrases) the facts, while interesting, have no place in this discussion.

There are many other examples of this phenomenon, but let me finish with that good old ideology I might have mentioned before (joke): trans rights. The woke mob like to say trans women are real women. That is only true if you base your statements on emotion or trying to be nice, rather than facts and trying to be fair.

Allowing trans "women" (actually men) into women's spaces might seem nice, but who is it nice to? What about he people (real women) who are harmed by this concept? Again, the small number of people who gain an advantage from this (genuine trans women) are outweighed by the large number of people who are disadvantaged (real women).

In what way are any of these things nice? In what way are they kind? In what way are they rational? they simply aren't, and that's why we need to eradicate the influence of wokeism on modern society.

One of the most intelligent ( with out emotion ) analysis I have read for some time. We seem to have become a country where so many are too worried about upsetting people that they never publicly state their true feelings. I trust you will not get to many negative rebuttals against your post but you have had the courage to state what you believe, Well done.

The only comment I have had apart from yours so far is that I spend too much time "ranting about woke-ism". A fair point, actually! :)
