More Misc Opinions

Entry 336, on 2006-05-26 at 19:59:16 (Rating 2, Comments)

This is part two of my miscellaneous opinions blog post. Again I'm going to briefly mention a few random subjects, and update some previous topics with new information which has just arrived today.

I'm currently installing a new Mac Mini Intel Solo 1.5G computer. Its the first single processor Intel Mac I've used, and I'm a lot more impressed with it that I thought I would be. It actually moves along quite nicely for a cheap basic machine and it has enough useful stuff to be quite usable: 512MB of RAM, an SATA 60G hard disk, Bluetooth, wireless networking. No DVD writer though which is a bit annoying. I've got this one connected to a Philips 170B LCD screen and its OK without being outstanding. Overall, a very useful cheap machine.

Telecom are continuing to hunt down anyone showing the spoof advertisement and insist that anyone who has it remove it from servers, etc. There's still places it can be loaded from, of course. You can try as much as you like, but you can never completely shut down distribution channels on the Internet! Meanwhile everyone is having a good laugh at Telecom's expense. For some reason no one seems to have a lot of sympathy for them!

I'm reading more reviews of Microsoft Vista. Some are moderately positive: one reader reports it being stable for a week. Others are having major problems with installation and compatibility. Maybe it depends on what sort of hardware you have and what your overall expectations are of a beta OS. Microsoft say they are on schedule for release early next year... we will see.
